11/10/17 God's Expectations
Micah 6:8  He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Sermon outline:  A.  Do justly (good and fair actions). B. Love mercy (more than actions: emotional commitment to forgiveness and God's goodness). C. walk humbly WITH God (not prideful, but 100% faithfully obedient to God's expectations as contained in the Written Word of God (Scriptures) and the Living Word, Jesus, God's Son who walked among us in meekness).

8/30//17  Love Truly, Despise Evil, Cling to Good(a longer than usual entry)

Romans 12:9  Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

Sermon outline:     1. Love must be sincere.
Devoid of guile and treachery -- not like the counterfeit love of Judas Iscariot, the betrayer.  Judas who lived as a close disciple of Jesus but who became a home for the Devil:  John 13:27   And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.   2. Hate what is evil.    Mark 7:20-23  And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.  For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.  So we  must put off these characteristics of our previous nature of sin leading to death and be born again in Jesus!!  Praise God:  the Good News is that all evil deeds can be overcome and washed clean by the blood of the Lamb of God – Jesus can deliver you from the Devil’s path to the straight and narrow: bring you from death to eternal life.    3. Cling to what is good.    Jesus!   James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.   Mat 19:16-17a:  And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?  And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God . . . .     John 1:1-8: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.  There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.  The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.  He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.  Cling to Jesus -- he is our Lord, or purpose, our Means of Grace for salvation and for the daily fight against the Evil One.

1/15/17  Christ in Us

1 Corinthians 1:30   But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Sermon outline:  Christ's (not our own) accomplishments come within us as new Christians -- and this being "in" us has many blessings:  A.  he is our wisdom (his sacred living words, recalled for us by the Holy spirit), B.  he is our righteousness (see Jeremiah 23:6, Philippians 3:9) -- this is a more personal indwelling than him just preaching a righteous path we might try, i.e., the Mosaic Law (see Galatians 3:23-27); C. he is our sanctification (our lively assurance of constant movement toward godliness/maturity in the Gospel;  D. he is our redemption (he lovingly removed our total sin debt on the cruel cross).

1/9/17  Getting God's Ear

Psalm 4:2-3   O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.  But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.

Sermon outline:  The Ungodly:  A.  shaming God and ashamed of God, B. lovers of self and haughty, C. greedy and anxious to rob their neighbor; but  . . The Godly people do the opposite, and do gain the blessings God has for his children when they call upon him.

Burning Bush – Turning and Seeking
Exodus 3:3-4   And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.  And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
Sermon outline:  1. turning aside from earthly tasks, 2. seeking clarity of heavenly events, 3. then finding God’s favor.  [Seek and you shall find.]

Faithful Giving
Leviticus 27:32-33   And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth He shall not search whether it be good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he change it at all, then both it and the change thereof shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.
Sermon outline:  1. Give God his due of money, things, time, skill (whether from your poverty or wealth), 2. give without selfish greed or one-sided negotiation, 3. such gifts are holy and pleasing to the God who made you

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego
Daniel 3:28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
Sermon outline:  1. yielded their bodies, 2. did not worship idols, 3. did worship only God,  4. thus were delivered from fire

Christ’s Mission on Earth
Hebrews 2:17   Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
Sermon outline:  1. incarnation (total man as well as total God), 2. faithful intermediary between God and us, 3. who faithfully did the duties of a loving High Priest by conducting a perfect sin sacrifice for us (Jesus was High Priest and the one and only eternal sacrifice – both the Good shepherd and the Lamb of God)

Balaam and His Donkey, Sermon One:  Witnessing Under Persecution
Numbers 22:23   And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.
Sermon outline:  the donkey saw the heavenly messenger and wisely turned aside from the convenient road (we must obey the Lord); Balaam stubbornly tried to get her to return to the path of evil (the powerful forces of evil will stubbornly attack your new life); but the donkey continued to return to the way of the Lord even under persecution; God miraculously blessed this donkey, and eventually Balaam repented and walked with the mindset obedient to God’s will.

Balaam and His Donkey, SermonTwo:  God’s Message for Sinners
Num 22:34-35 And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.  And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
Sermon outline:  1. Confess our sins, 2. turn to the right way, 3. that way may be to keep your same place and plans, but now to make sure those plans are restructured to be in accord with God’s righteous motives, not your own selfish ones.

The Christian LIfe
Titus 2:12   Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world
Sermon outline:  deny ungodliness (step one is repentance and turning to Jesus), be sober (step two is calming down – fighting old lusts), be righteous (step three is thinking and doing the right things), and be godly (the ultimate step is a pure, servant love for God and neighbor)
